Oswego Men`s Ice Hockey Scores Nine Against Salve Regina

OS Hockey The No. 7/10 Oswego State men's ice hockey team took down visiting Salve Regina 9-3 on Tuesday night in the Campus Center Ice Arena. Oswego's win improves its season mark to 10-2-2 on the season while the Seahawks fall to 6-8-0.

In the first period, the Lakers struck first, with Chris Raguseo notching an unassisted goal at 7:51. Later in the period, however, Salve Regina would knot the score with 3:55 left. The Seahawks took advantage of an Oswego penalty, with Jonathan Felteau evening the game at 1-1 on a power-play.

Oswego would not allow the game to head to intermission in a tie, using a fast and furious flurry of goals over the final four minutes of the first. Alex Botten started the quick run with a goal at 17:08 off assists from Kenny Neil and Mike Wills.

After Salve Regina was whistled for a penalty, the Lakers were at it again. This time it was Raguseo adding his second score of the contest at 18:48 to give Oswego a two-goal spread at 3-1. The Lakers were still not done in the first, as David Titanic sent a goal home just 46 seconds over the team's third score. Titanic received the help of Evan Schultz and Chris Carr on the tally.

The second period featured a combined three goals between the two squads, all within a 2:05 span. Cameron Gaudet scored at 9:40 to pull the Seahawks to within two at 4-2. Once again, however, the Lakers would capitalize on a penalty, with Stephen Johnson beating the Salve Regina goal tender 39 second later. Mac Scott and Shawn Hulshof recorded assists on the play, making the score 5-2.

Salve Regina would score just over a minute later, as Gaudet added his second goal of the day without an assistance. The 5-3 Oswego lead would hold the remainder of the second and into the final intermission.

Oswego was able to put the game out of reach in the third, with Neil nabbing his second point of the night, this time on an unassisted goal just 30 seconds into the period. Neil was not finished, helping on the Lakers fourth goal, a Matt Galati goal at 7:25 to give Oswego a 7-3 advantage. Also in on the score was Alex Botten, adding an assist to his goal from earlier in the evening.

Shawn Hulshof scored a goal at 12:19 from Dylan Smith and Johnson before Neil rounded out the scoring with his fourth point of the night on a power-play. Bobby Gertsakis assisted on Neil's goal that came with 6:08 left in regulation.

Oswego will return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday as it takes on Nazareth College in the Campus Center. The Lakers beat the Golden Flyers last week by a final of 5-3.
