Oswego State softball players Tori Trovato (Fr., Fulton, N.Y./Millbrook) and Sammie Schroeter (Jr., Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) have been named to the All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Softball teams as voted on by the league's coaches.
Trovato was named to the First Team, while Schroeter was named to the Second Team. Third-year head coach Casey Price was selected as the SUNYAC Sandra Hollander Coach of the Year.
Trovato led the team in virtually every offensive category during her freshman campaign. The shortstop hit .426 with five doubles and four homeruns, all of which ranked top-10 in conference play. She topped the SUNYAC in runs scored with 24. Her 22 RBI ranked second in the league, as did her 13 walks, in which she only trailed teammate Schroeter. Trovato's timely hitting was at its finest in crucial conference wins against Oneonta and Brockport late in the season. In a playoff-clinching win over the Golden Eagles, Trovato hit a grand slam in the seventh inning to open up a five-run lead. She finished the game 4-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored to help the Lakers seal the 9-4 victory.
Schroeter hit .345 and led the conference in walks (14) en route to her second consecutive Second-
Team All-SUNYAC mention. She finished top-15 in on-base percentage (.466), runs (17) and hits (20). Schroeter registered seven multi-hit games in conference play, including going 4-for-8 with three runs in a sweep of Fredonia. In SUNYAC play, she turned in a perfect fielding percentage with 38 putouts from center field.
In her third season at the Lakers' helm, Price guided Oswego State to a second straight SUNYAC postseason and the program's first ever playoff win. The Lakers became the first No. 6 seed to defeat the top seed in the SUNYAC softball tournament by defeating Brockport, 9-0, in five innings. Oswego State finished the regular season 17-20 overall and 9-9 in the SUNYAC. Prior to Price, the Lakers had made only one appearance in the SUNYAC Tournament (2008). Price is the first Oswego State softball coach to receive this honor since it started being awarded in 1984.
