A late third-period surge fell short as the Oswego State women's ice hockey team (7-6-1) dropped a 2-1 decision to St. Norbert (5-6-2) Sunday afternoon at the Campus Center Ice Arena. The squads went up and down the rink for the first half of the first period until Andrea Senne tapped a shot by Laurel Hill past Laker goalie Tori Trovato (Fr., Fulton, N.Y.) near the right post along the goal line at 12:15. St. Norbert pressured the Laker defense from that point, but was unable to add to its lead.
The Green Knights went ahead by two goals at 9:39 in the second period when Isabell Lindstrom was the beneficiary of a give-and-go play from Karissa Anderson. Tarraneh Dadgar also earned an assist on the play.
Oswego State cut its deficit in half when Leslie Jarvis's (Jr., Newmarket, Ontario) slap shot from the blue line found its way through traffic past St. Norbert goalie Kaley Gibson at the 13:56 mark. The final goal of period came with nine seconds remaining on a Green Knight interference penalty.
In the third period, both squads had their share of scoring chances, including three St. Norbert power plays early in the stanza. However, the Laker penalty-kill unit was up to the challenge, not allowing the Green Knights to add to their lead.
Oswego State added more offensive pressure late in the third and pulled Trovato from goal with 52 seconds remaining, but the Lakers were unable to find the back of the net.
Trovato suffered the loss after making 17 saves, while Gibson finished with 16.
Oswego State returns to ECAC West action next weekend when it travels to Plattsburgh to face the top-ranked Cardinals.
