Oswego State men's basketball players Hayden Ward (Montauk, N.Y.) and Sean 
Michele (East Rochester, N.Y.) have been named to the All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Basketball teams as voted on by the league's coaches. Ward was chosen as the 2013 SUNYAC Player of the Year and named to the First Team, while Michele was named to the Third Team.
Ward is the third Laker to earn Player of the Year honors joining Sean McLaughlin, who earned the award in 1999, and Chad Burridge, who earned the award in 2011 and 2012.
Ward was the conference's top rebounder with 10.1 boards per game. He was the only player in the conference to average a double-double, also finishing sixth in scoring with 18.1 points per contest. Ward was named SUNYAC Men's Basketball Player in back-to-back weeks on December 3 and 10.
The senior closed his collegiate career with five straight double-doubles, while averaging 16 points and 14 rebounds in two SUNYAC playoff games. Ward turned in career highs of 33 points and 18 rebounds in a February 12 win against Oneonta. He also finished with 13 double-doubles during the season.
Ward wrapped up his career with 1,393 points and 892, both which rank in the top-10 in program history. He has been a First Team All-SUNYAC selection in consecutive seasons, and earned Third Team All-SUNYAC honors his sophomore season.
Michele, a graduate student point guard, led the league in minutes played this season averaging 34.3 minutes in 18 games. The point guard was among the best in conference play, finishing seventh in the SUNYAC in assists with 3.1 per contest and a team-leading 87 for the season. The 2012 Second Team All-SUNYAC selection also averaged 11.5 points per game and 3.0 assists per game in two SUNYAC playoff games.
Michele amassed 142 steals and 444 assists, both ranking in the top-10 in program history, as well as 767 points during his career after finishing the season averaging 9.1 points and 3.2 assists per game.
Oswego State wrapped up its season 19-8 overall and 11-7 in the SUNYAC standings to earn the fourth-seed. The Lakers defeated Brockport in the quarterfinal round before losing to No. 1 Cortland in the semifinal round.
