Oswego Uses Comeback to Move Past Potsdam

OS Hockey The Oswego State men`s ice hockey team came back from two separate deficits to beat Potsdam 4-3 on the road Friday night. With the win, Oswego improves to 16-6-2 on the year and 9-5-1 in SUNYAC contests while the Bears fall to 9-13-2, 4-9-2.

Potsdam got on the board first at 4:06 in the first but Oswego answered just over three minutes later when Alex Botten buried a goal. The score came at 7:14 to knot the game at one goal apiece, with assists being credited to Chris Waterstreet and Matt Galati.

The Bears took the lead once again at 10:46, going up 2-1, an edge it would hold heading into the intermission. All three goals scored in the first period came on the power-play, as both squads capitalized on their opponents' infractions.

Oswego had an impactful second period, scoring three-straight goals while keeping Potsdam scoreless for the full 20 minute stretch. Galati struck twice in the period, scoring goals at 36 seconds and at 17:40, the latter proving to be the game-winner. Both of the freshman's goal were assisted by Nick Rivait, with Chris Carr earning an assist on the first and Stephen Johnson gaining a point on the second.

Mike Montagna sandwiched a goal between Galati's two scores, netting the go-ahead tally at 16:55 on passes from Bobby Getsakis and Manny Gialedakis.

The Bears would try a comeback effort in the final period, scoring a goal with just 1:40 left in the contest. Matt Zawadzki would hold on for the victory in the final minutes, however, finishing with 31 saves on the night.

Oswego will wrap-up the regular season at 7 p.m. on Saturday when it travels to Plattsburgh to renew the rivalry with the Cardinals.
