Oswego Women's Ice Hockey Off to Best Start

OS Hockey The Oswego State women's ice hockey team cruised past SUNY Canton 6-1 on Saturday afternoon to complete the sweep of the Kangaroos during White Out Weekend. With the victory, the Lakers improve to 8-2-1 on the year which is the best start in program history.

Oswego scored the game's first five goals to easily move past Canton. Three of the team's six goals came in the first period.

Bailee Goodon started the scoring just 2:12 into the contest in unassisted fashion. Freshman Kendall Appelbaum notched an unassisted goal of her own 13 minutes later to give the Lakers a 2-0 advantage. To close out the scoring in the opening period was Bridget Hamlin, who scored with :02 left in the stanza off a Megan Hagg assist.

Goodon was back at it at 16:55 of the second period, scoring her second goal of the day, again with no assist. After scoring the previous day, Ashley Lyman added to the scoring barrage on Saturday as well. On an assist from Mady Paul, Lyman beat the Kangaroo goalie to make the score 5-0 with 40 seconds before the second intermission. Canton added a goal 20 seconds later to make the score 5-1 at the break.

Appelbaum joined Goodon with two goals on the day by scoring the third period's only tally. With just under three minutes remaining in regulation, Appelbaum found the back of the net on passes from Hagg and Chelsea Hunt.

Oswego will return to action in the New Year at 7 p.m. on January 10 as it travels to De Pere, Wis. To face St. Norbert
