Softball Swept at Cortland on Sunday

OS Softball The Oswego State softball team finished SUNYAC play with two losses to first place Cortland on Sunday afternoon at Dragon Field. With the pair of losses, Oswego goes to 9-18 overall and 5-13 in conference action while the Red Dragons improve to 25-13, 14-4.

GAME ONE – Cortland 12, Oswego 2 (5 Innings):

Seniors Deanna Apps and Sammie Schroeter each went 1-for-2 and drove in a RBI in the first game of the doubleheader. Alexis Nasca led the Lakers with a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate.

Also finishing with hits in the contest were senior Katie Bredin and Jacquie Porreca. Porreca also scored a run in the game as did Jessie Terrano.

On the rubber, three Lakers saw action, with Alexandria Connelly taking the loss in an inning-long start. Connelly gave up four runs on two hits and two walks. She was relieved by Nasca, who threw three innings, allowing seven hits and eight runs, only six of which were earned. Katie Heselden tossed the final inning successfully, giving up just one hit and no runs with a strikeout.

GAME TWO – Cortland 10, Oswego 0 (5 Innings):

Schroeter again had a hit in a game two along with teammates Melissa Mulvaney and Justine Abramowski. The top Laker at the dish in the second game, however, was senior Katie Dobkowski, going 2-for-3.

All three pitchers saw action in the second game as well, this time with Heselden starting and falling to 3-3 on the year with the loss. Similarly, Nasca came in for three innings of relief before Connelly closed out the final two frames.

Oswego will be back in action 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday when it hosts Nazareth College in a doubleheader at Laker Softball Field.
