Stanley J. "Bucky" Kon, 90, of Oswego, NY, passed away on July 25, 2026.
Born in Syracuse, NY, he was the eldest child of the late Stanley and Verna Kon. In 1957, he married Marianne Burns, and they were blessed with five loving children: Susan Hough (John Edelstein), Sally (James) Kelley, Jeanne Myers, Kevin Kon, and Nancy Nessel. He is survived by his seven grandchildren: Andrew and Abbey Hough, Dr. Stephen Kelley, Christopher (Stephen Houseman) Kelley, Colleen (Jon) Spencer, Anthony Myers, and Catherine Nessel; as well as two great-grandchildren, Nora and James Spencer. In addition, he leaves behind his siblings: Kathryn Scharf, Dr. Robert Kon, and Terese (Edwin) Taber; and his brothers-in-law: Dr. William (Marie) Burns and Jack Burns. He was predeceased by many beloved family members: Peter Scharf, Mary Burns, Daniel Hough, Timothy Myers and Christopher Nessel. After graduating from SUNY Oswego in 1959, he taught Industrial Arts in the Canastota and Phoenix school districts. Among his accomplishments, he received the Phoenix Central School District Teacher of the Year Award in 1989. Upon his retirement, he volunteered at local schools in Oswego, tutoring children in math and reading. Additionally, he designed and built his own home in Scriba, where he lived for more than forty years with his beloved wife. He enjoyed family gatherings, camping, woodworking, and nature. Stanley dedicated his life to the care and safety of his disabled son and had a profound faith in God and the Church.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Minetto.
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00-6:00.
Rite of Committal and burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Oswego, NY.
