Lakers Open SUNYAC Play with Fourth Straight Win

The Oswego State field hockey team opened its SUNYAC slate by extending its win streak to four with a 3-2 victory at Morrisville State College on Wednesday afternoon. Oswego has rattled off four wins in a row after opening 0-2 while the Mustangs drop to 2-6 on the year and 0-3 in conference play.

Katie Reynolds tallied the eventual game-winner in the 57th minute, pushing the Laker advantage to 3-1, the largest lead either team would enjoy in the contest. Reynolds was assisted by Lacey Woite, who was quite involved all afternoon long.

Woite evened the game at 30:27 with her third goal of the season to erase an early 1-0 Morrisville lead. After the teams headed to the locker rooms knotted at 1-1, Woite was at it again, this time with help from a teammate. At 53:17, it was Reynolds who aided Woite for her fourth goal of the year and – in doing so – gave Oswego an edge it would never relinquish. The junior duo then sealed the triumph with the aforementioned game-winner less than three minutes later as they reversed roles for the Lakers' final score.

Oswego nearly dominated every statistical category, including shots (17-10), saves (7-5) and penalty corners (19-5). The Lakers' seven team saves were broken down with six for goalie Sarita Charap and a defensive save for senior Emily Brockwell.

For its next contest, Oswego will puts its four-game string of victories on the line against nationally-ranked William Smith College. The Herons and their No. 20 ranking in the latest NFCHA DIII national poll will visit Laker Turf Stadium at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
