Oswego Dominates Nationally-Ranked Brockport

OS BasketballThe Oswego State men`s basketball team knocked off No. 14 Brockport 95-83, handing the Golden Eagles just the third loss of the season in dominating fashion. With the win, Oswego improves to 15-9 on the season and 9-8 in the SUNYAC while the Golden Eagles fall 20-3, 14-2.

Oswego remains in a tie for fifth place in conference standings with Cortland as the Red Dragons defeated Geneseo on Tuesday night. Oneonta now leads both squads by just a half a game in the loss column as the fourth place team was idle on Tuesday.

Oswego will travel to Cortland for a showdown at 4 p.m. on Saturday as the two teams fight for playoff positioning in the regular season finale.

Oswego clicked on all cylinders in the first half, with Walter Sampson's lay in at the buzzer sending the team to the locker rooms with a 47-36 lead. The Lakers' 47 first half points is the most points Brockport has allowed in any first half this season (previously 43 points by New Paltz and Plattsburgh).

Oswego fought back despite the Golden Eagles opening the game on an 8-1 run. Matt Crockett's 3-pointer with 6:35 left in the first gave the Lakers their first lead of the game at 24-22. Oswego would hold the lead the rest of the half.

Crockett's trey was at the beginning of a 19-5 run that would build a comfortable lead for the Lakers heading to the break. Brockport held a 22-19 advantage that Oswego quickly turned to a 38-27 lead over a 4:57 span. The margin would grow to as many as 12 at 45-33 with 1:23 left in the period before maintaining an 11-point lead at the intermission.

Daniel Ross nearly had a double-double in the first half with 15 points and nine boards.

The second half was full of aggressive play, with Brockport fiving the Lakers its best shot, cutting the lead to six at 70-64 with 8:18 remaining in the game. For every Golden Eagle punch, Oswego had a counter, scoring the contest's next eight points to secure the victory.

Ross finished with a double-double, tying his career-high with 28 points for the second-straight game while setting a new career-high with 14 rebounds. The senior also filled the stat sheet, assisting his teammates six times while collecting a steal as well.

Also with a double-double on the night was Keith Tyson, who finished with 13 points and 11 boards. Tyson's 11 rebounds were career-high as was Crockett's 17 points, the team's second-highest total on the evening.

Sampson rounded out the Laker double-figure scorers, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor to finish with 11 points. Rashawn Powell was solid for Oswego as well, scoring nine points while corralling seven rebounds.
