The Oswego State men`s lacrosse team lost its conference-opener 8-3 to Brockport in a rain-soaked game on Thursday afternoon at the South Athletic Field. With the loss, Oswego falls to 4-4 overall and 0-1 in SUNYAC competition while the Golden Eagles improve to 4-5, 1-1.
Oswego took a 1-0 lead but it would be its only lead of the contest as the Lakers either narrowly trailed or were tied with Brockport for most of the contest. At the half, the Lakers found themselves trailing by just a goal at 3-2.
Matt Palmer was able to even the score at 3-3 with a goal on an extra-man opportunity. The man-up goal came with 7:54 remaining in the third quarter and was assisted by Connor Khammar. Oswego and Brockport remained deadlocked for the next six minutes until a goal 1:12 on the clock gave the Golden Eagles a 4-3.
The Lakers were unable to find the back of the net the rest of the way, allowing Brockport to score five-unanswered goals to take the 8-3 win.
Khammar was on-point in the contest, scoring Oswego's first two goals before assisting on Palmer's game-tying goal. Nick Giampaolo rounded out the Lakers' point-getters on the afternoon, distributing the ball on Khammar's second goal to knot the game at 2-2.
Troy Crevier won 8-of-15 faceoffs on the day and finished with a team-best four ground balls. Wyatt Russo took the loss in net, stopping five Golden Eagles' attempts in the game.
Oswego will return to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when it hosts nationally-ranked Cortland in another conference matchup.
