Hamlin's goal at 7:57 was scored during a power-play opportunity as Canton was whistled for roughing. The freshman got help from some upperclassmen on the play, as seniors Leslie Jarvis and Mady Paul were credited with assists on the play.

Canton got on the board with 2:35 left in the period but Oswego would not let the game get any closer. With :50 left in the second, senior Melissa Seamont put the Lakers back up by a two-goal margin, scoring off passes from captain Jocelyn St. Clair and rookie Monica Patten.
