Softball Loses Two to New Paltz at Home

OS Softball

The Oswego State softball team took a pair of losses against visiting New Paltz on Tuesday afternoon at Laker Softball Field. With the two defeats, Oswego is now 3-19 overall and 1-15 in the SUNYAC while the Hawks improve to 16-11, 8-4.

GAME ONE – New Paltz 4, Oswego 3 (10 INN):

The two teams battled back-and-forth over the first five innings, with New Paltz knotting the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth. Neither team would score again until the 10th, when the Hawks added two tallies to take a 4-2 lead. The Lakers were able to get a run back in the bottom of the frame were unable to force more extras.

Lisa O'Callaghan pitched all 10 innings for the Lakers, striking out seven New Paltz batters while scattering 13 hits. Only three of the pitchers four runs were earned. The junior also did not allow a walk to her 41 batters faced.

At the plate, Tori Trovato was 2-for-4 with a run scored while Ashley Lyman had a hit, an RBI and crossed the plate once. Also finishing with hits were O'Callaghan and Alexis Nasca. O'Callaghan also drove in a Laker score.

GAME TWO – New Paltz 5, Oswego 1:

In the nightcap, Trovato stayed hot, going 3-for-4 with a double while Dana Taglioni also went 3-for-4. Amanda Pfitscher was a perfect 1-for-1 in her pinch-hit appearance, hammering a double down the left field line to drive in the Lakers' only run of the game. Alexandra McKay scored on that double and also had a multiple-hit game. Lyman rounded out the Oswego players with hits, going 1-for-3 with a walk.

Katie Heselden took the loss in two innings of work, surrendering five runs. Alexandria Connelly threw the final five innings, allowing just two hits and no runs in a solid relief effort.

Oswego will be back in action at 12 p.m. on Saturday when it closes out its SUNYAC slate with a doubleheader at Potsdam.
