Fueled by strong performances in several events, the Oswego State men's track and field team took seventh place (out of eight) in the SUNYAC Indoor Championships, increasing their point total by 5 from a year ago..
Starting off the day for the Lakers, freshman Kyle Harbour took ninth in the heptathlon, setting a new school record for points (3,502) in his multi-event debut. Freshman Alex Ladouceur took home the 2015 High Jump championship, clearing 1.98 meters (6'6"). While the event featured a four-way tie at 1.98, Ladouceur was the only jumper in the competition to clear all previous heights on his first attempt, thus winninng the tie breaker. This first place finish also earned Ladouceur First Team All-SUNYAC honors in that event. Field events continued to impress on the second day as sophomore Adam Crumb took home fifth place in the long jump, hitting 6.67 meters (21'11") on three separate jumps during the event.
On the track, junior Ben Griffin ran a gritty race in the mile, placing fifth with a time of 4:21.81, which was second place all time for the Lakers. In the 800, seniors Matt Wagenhauser and Nick Reinsdorf also found their way to the podium. Wagenhauser's season best performance of 1:55.52 captured the bronze medal, while Reinsdorf took fifth in a time of 1:56.82, also a season best.
In the closing relay, the 4x400 team of Brandon Comden, Reinsdorf, Griffin, and Wagenhauser competed in a heated race, battling against Brockport and Oneonta in the final section, with all three teams separated by less than half a second. The Lakers time of 3:22.85 was a season best and ranks among the top three times in school history.
The Lakers will return to action on Saturday when they travel to New York City to compete in the ECAC Championships.
