Two Late Goals Pushes Oswego to Draw at Cortland

OS Hockey

The Oswego State women's ice hockey team opened ECAC Women's West play with a 2-2 draw at Cortland on Saturday afternoon. Following the tilt, both the Lakers and Red Dragons sport 1-1-1 overall records with 0-0-1 marks in conference.

Trailing 2-0 with less than six minutes remaining in regulation, Oswego took advantage of two Cortland penalties that were whistled just 37 seconds apart. With a second left before the first infraction was done being served, Brianna Rice found Alli Ullrich for a power-play tally to cut the Laker deficit to one. Rice would capitalize again, this time with seven seconds remaining in the final Red Dragon penalty. The junior found sophomore teammate Olivia Ellis for the equalizer at 15:19.

Oswego's penalty-kill stayed a perfect 2-for-2 on the day in the waning minutes, squashing a Cortland chance that ran until 30 seconds prior to the end of regulation horn. The two squads then competed in a five-minute overtime but were not able to decide a winner, wrapping the battle in a 2-2 tie.

Senior captain Tori Trovato earned the start between the pipes for the Lakers, making 24 stops in the draw. Oswego outshot Cortland 33-26 in the contest and was 2-for-5 on power-play opportunities.

The Lakers and Red Dragons will faceoff again at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Cortland's Alumni Arena.
