Grant will support purchasing of self-contained breathing apparatuses.

State Senator Christopher J. Ryan (SD-50) today announced $300,000 in state funding to the City of Oswego Fire Department for the purchase of 30 new self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBAs), cylinders and masks. The new equipment will replace aging, failing SCBAs – a vital piece of safety equipment that provides a portable, independent supply of breathable air to users in hazardous environments, protecting them from smoke, toxic gases, and oxygen-deficient atmospheres.

“Our firefighters put their lives on the line every day,” said Senator Ryan. “It is our responsibility to ensure they have the tools necessary to do their jobs safely and effectively while serving our community. I am proud to provide this funding to the Oswego Fire Department so they can upgrade to modern, reliable equipment that supports their critical work.”

The Oswego Fire Department serves 250,000 people annually. The new SCBAs will allow firefighters to safely operate in extremely dangerous conditions, such as high heat, heavy smoke and toxic fumes that pose immediate risks to health and safety.

City of Oswego Mayor Robert Corradino said, “I extend our sincere gratitude for the grant award secured through the office of New York State Senator Christopher Ryan. This investment reflects Senator Ryan’s steadfast commitment to the safety of our firefighters and the well‑being of every resident in our community. The new SCBA equipment will greatly enhance public safety by allowing us to acquire critical gear that protects our firefighters while ensuring responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources. We are deeply appreciative of Senator Ryan and his team’s dedicated efforts in securing this funding, which will strengthen Oswego’s public safety capabilities now and into the future.”

City of Oswego Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Management Paul Conzone said, "We are extremely grateful for this grant award obtained through the office of NYS Senator Christopher Ryan. This funding represents his dedication and commitment to the safety of our Firefighters and residents in the City of Oswego. These new SCBA are updated to the latest NFPA standards and include cutting-edge technologies that will result in increased public safety. This grant award allows us to purchase this mission-critical equipment and increase Firefighter safety, while reducing the burden on the taxpayer. We extend our deep appreciation to Senator Ryan and his staff for their tireless work in securing this funding. Their collective work will improve public safety in the City of Oswego for years to come."
