Lakers Unable to Complete Comeback Against Brockport

OS Hockey The Oswego State men`s ice hockey team lost its second-straight game 3-2 to Brockport at the Campus Center Ice Arena on Saturday night. Oswego`s loss drops its season mark to 15-6-2 with an 8-5-1 record in the SUNYAC. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 8-12-3, 5-8-1.

Senior captain David Titanic netted a goal late in the third period to bring the Lakers within a one. Matt Galati and Chris Raguseo were credited with assists on Titanic's Senior-Night goal. Oswego played the final 1:26 with an extra attacker as it pulled Justin Gilbert from net but was unable to score the equalizer.

The Lakers severely outshot the Golden Eagles 47-24 but it was not enough to change the outcome.

Brockport's first goal came on a shot that was hit on its way to goal and fluttered in front of Gilbert, hitting off his pad and allowing a rebound goal. The score came at 4:34 of the opening period and the Golden Eagles would add another six minutes later.

At 10:02, Brockport took a 2-0 advantage but Oswego had an answer at 18:05 as Chris Waterstreet earned his third point of the weekend with a goal from Bobby Gertsakis and Stephen Johnson. The two teams headed to the final intermission with the score at 2-1 in Brockport's favor.

As Oswego continued to control play and dominate shots, Brockport scored a dagger as a rifled shot from just inside the blue line found the stick of a planted Golden Eagle at the side of the crease, deflecting the puck into the net. The goal came at 4:02 and would represent the eventual game-winner.

A minute and a half later, the Lakers went a man down but was able to kill the penalty before earning a power-play of their own at 9:23. Once again Oswego found some great opportunities but were unable to beat the goalie.

A couple plays before Titanic scored in the third, the Lakers had one of their best chances but, much like the previous night, the bounce went Brockport's way as a shot from just in front of the net caromed off the post and back into play.

Oswego will return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday when it travels to Potsdam to start the final weekend of the regular season. The season finale will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday when Plattsburgh and the Lakers renew their rivalry.
