Lakers Undone by Second-Half Run

OS Lacross The Oswego State men`s lacrosse was undone by a late Potsdam run and fell 10-6 in a SUNYAC game at home on Wednesday afternoon. Oswego`s loss drops its overall record to 6-8 on the year with a 0-5 conference mark while the Bears improve to 10-4, 4-1.

Torry Whitcher and the Lakers got off to a hot start, scoring two of the contest's first three goals in the opening period. Whitcher buried the first goal at 11:41 for his 18th score of the year coming off a Nick Giampaolo pass. After Potsdam evened the score at 1-1, Whitcher was at it again, notching his second goal with 2:56 left in the first. This goal was on the heels of a Cody Hoose assist.

Hoose picked up where he left off, assisting on a Chris Porten goal to push the Laker lead to 3-1 just under four minutes into the second quarter. The Bears were able to find the back of the net later in the period to make it a 3-2 Oswego advantage at the half.

Oswego again looked to start with a head of steam, scoring the opening two goals of the third period to gain its largest lead of the game at 5-2. Both goals were tallied from the stick of Connor Khammar, with the first just 50 seconds into the quarter in unassisted fashion. Khammar's second goal came during an extra-man opportunity at 11:23 as Nick Giampaolo earned his second assist of the day.

The Lakers would struggle to score over the next several minutes, however, as Potsdam put together a six-goal spurt to take control of the game. At 8-5, Matt Palmer brought Oswego to within two with his 20th goal of the year with 3:58 to play. Palmer's goal was assisted by Khammar.

Potsdam would add two goals down the stretch to put the game out of reach.

Freshman Wyatt Russo took the loss between the pipes, stopping eight shots in the 60-minute outing.

As a team, Oswego won the shot (39-36) and ground ball (32-19) battles as well as winning two more faceoffs than the Bears (10-for-18). Troy Crevier won each of those faceoffs for the Lakers along with corralling a team-best five ground balls.

Oswego will wrap up its regular season with a 2:30 p.m. conference tilt at Oneonta on Saturday.
