The Oswego State men's cross country team claimed sixth place in the 10-team SUNYAC Championships on Saturday afternoon, hosted by Plattsburgh. Oswego scored 145 points as its top-five runners finished in the top 40, just two points shy of fifth-place finisher New Paltz. Geneseo captured the team title on the afternoon.
Freshman Dylan McCarthy showed his ability as a newcomer, with his time of 25:47.1 being the fastest of all first-runners in the event. That time was not only best among freshman, but was 14th quickest in the entire race.
Sophomore Colin Greenseich was not far behind his teammate, crossing the finish line in 26:37.6 for a top 25 showing, securing 23rd place. McCarthy's classmate, Nicholas Leclair, nabbed 30th in his first conference championship, running the competition in 27:04.9.
Rounding out the Laker top five were junior Tyler Morris (27:20.0) and sophomore Justin Sommer (27:25.8), with less than six seconds and two places between the pair.
After almost two weeks of preparations, Oswego will close out its regular season with the NCAA Atlantic Regional at 11 a.m. on Nov. 14, hosted by Geneseo.
