Just past the halfway point in the 2015 indoor season, the Oswego State men's track and field team showed promising signs that they were rounding in to form at the Brockport Mid-Season Classic.
Senior Nick Montesano opened up scoring for the Lakers, taking first in the 5000 with a career-best time of 15:29.07, 30 seconds better than his previous mark. The distance medley relay of seniors Nick Reinsdorf, Brandon Comden and Damian Archie and sophomore Ben Griffin, also earned top honors on the day, winning the event with a time of 10:46.58. Concurrently with the 5,000, seniors Chris Bridgewater and Josh Maiolo finished third and fifth, respectively, in the triple jump despite passing on all of their attempts in the finals.
After the fast start, the Lakers closed out the meet in similar fashion. In the final four events, Oswego's runners began grabbing points at an impressive rate. Starting with the 3000, freshman Colin Greenseich took third with a collegiate-best of 9:09.71. Archie and sophomore Tyler Morris took fourth and eighth place, respectively, to close out scoring in that event.
In the 800, Reinsdorf added to his point total on the day, taking second place in a time of 1:59.49. Griffin also took eighth in the event with a time of 2:02.74. In the last open event of the day, Comden took third overall in the 200 after winning his heat in a season-best time of 23.29.
In the closing 4x400 relay, the quartet of freshmen Jake Barbara and Kyle Harbour, senior Alejandro Lara and Griffin took fourth place to finish the meet for the Lakers. Oswego finished in a tie for fourth place overall in the team standings, finishing even with St. John Fisher College and three points behind league-rival Fredonia in the 14-team field.
The men will take their top performers to Boston, Mass. this weekend to participate in the Valentine Invitational on Saturday morning, hosted by Boston University.
