DIII News, The Monthly Newsletter of Division III Men's Basketball, recently recognized Oswego State junior guard Brian Sortino with an Honorable Mention selection for Preseason All-America.
The Fairport, N.Y. native was the only member the SUNYAC to be named to the preseason list. DIII News selected 24 players for its All-American team, with each of the eight regions getting three individuals apiece. In the honorable mention section, 28 more players were selected, with Sortino occupying one of those spots. The guard is also just 1 of 12 juniors to make the senior-laden, 52-man group.
Sortino is coming off a year where he led the Lakers to the SUNYAC Championship crown and earned Most Valuable Player hardware for his tournament performance. His 16.5 points per game was good for third in the league in 2014-15, helping the then-sophomore garner First Team All-SUNYAC accolades.
Men's basketball will begin its 2015-16 campaign in a little over a month when it travels to Canton, N.Y. for a 4 p.m. tilt on Saturday, Nov. 14 at St. Lawrence University.
