Oswego, NY – As summer vacation for students and staff enter its last month, volunteers with United Way of Oswego County’s Annual Stuff-A-Bus campaign are already starting to gear up for the new school year in September.
Every Laker in the lineup recorded a hit, as the Oswego State baseball team (24-13) ripped 16 hits in a 9-5 win over New Paltz (16-18) in the State University of New York Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament Friday, May 3.
The offense managed just four hits, as the Oswego State softball team (17-19) dropped a 6-0 decision to Geneseo (20-20) at the SUNYAC Softball Championships on Friday morning, May 3. The Lakers remain in the double-elimination tournament, and will face the loser of Cortland/Plattsburgh in an elimination game at 3 p.m. Friday.
The Blue Knights put three runs on the board in the top of the second inning. Two of those runs were scored following an Elise Porreca single into right center field with no outs. After a sacrifice bunt, Porreca scored on a sacrifice fly to right field to give Geneseo the 3-0 edge.
Dee Apps (Jr., Camillus, N.Y.) led off the second with a double down the left field line, but was stranded at third.
Geneseo tacked on another run in the third inning when Ashley Fillmore scored an unearned run when Jessica Steubing laced a single into left field. The Knights had a chance to put more runs on the board with the bases loaded, but Alexandria Connelly (Fr., Endicott, N.Y.) came into the game and cleanly fielded a ball to get Oswego State out of the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Lakers had runners on first and second with one out, but again were unable to get the critical base hits to cut into the deficit.
The Blue Knights plated two more runs in the top of the sixth, while Oswego State went down in order in the sixth and seventh innings.
All three Laker pitchers saw action, as Alexis Nasca (Fr., Hamburg, N.Y.) suffered the loss after giving up three runs, two of which were unearned, on three hits in three innings of work. Sarah Thayer (Sr., Winthrop, N.Y.) allowed one unearned run on one hit and two walks in two-thirds of an inning, while Connelly gave up two runs on four hits in the final 3.1 innings. Katie Gallagher went the distance in the circle for Geneseo, scattering four hits, striking out five and walking one.

The Oswego State softball team (17-18) made history in two ways on Thursday, May 2, after it defeated No. 1-seed Brockport (21-15) by the score of 9-0 in five innings.
Playing the last two games on its regular season schedule before the SUNYAC Tournament, the Oswego State baseball team (23-13) defeated RIT (11-20) by scores of 15-4 and 5-4. The Lakers closed out the regular season by winning 13 of its final 16 games.
The Oswego State women's lacrosse team (8-8) made sure the season ended well, holding on late to defeat Elmira (8-9), 9-8, Tuesday afternoon, April 30, at South Athletic Field.
Oswego State men's lacrosse faceoff specialist Tory Crevier (Fr., Webster, N.Y.) and midfielder Nick Giampaolo (Jr., Setauket, N.Y.) have been named to the All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Lacrosse Second Team as voted on by the league's coaches.
Scott Buniak (Clifton Park, N.Y.), a junior on the baseball team, and Tori Trovato 
(Fulton, N.Y.), a freshman on the softball team, have been named the Oswego State Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 28.
In its final regular season doubleheader of the year, the Oswego State softball team (16-18) dropped two games to Utica (26-10) by the scores of 7-0 and 10-3.
In the final meet of the season, the Oswego State men's golf team turned in a team score of 326 for a two-day total of 656 to finish two strokes behind team champion Hobart at the Oswego State Spring Invitational. The meet was played at the Oswego Country Club.
