Scott Buniak (Clifton Park, N.Y.), a junior on the baseball team, and Tori Trovato
(Fulton, N.Y.), a freshman on the softball team, have been named the Oswego State Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 28.
Buniak went 9-for-18 from the plate with a .571 on-base percentage for Oswego State, which went 5-1 last week. Buniak jumpstarted the Lakers' four-run tenth inning in Saturday's first game against Plattsburgh when he drew a lead-off walk and then stole second base before scoring. The centerfielder also was error-free with 17 putouts and one assist. Oswego State finished the conference schedule at 12-6 to earn the No. 3 seed two years after only earning one league win.
Trovato played a key role in helping Oswego State clinch its second straight SUNYAC Tournament bid when she batted .385 with a .769 slugging percentage and a .433 on-base percentage. In Friday's must-win game for the Lakers versus Geneseo, Trovato went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI as Oswego State won 10-3. She followed up that performance by going 4-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored in a 9-4 win over Brockport to clinch the Lakers' playoff spot. After the Golden Eagles had a four-run sixth inning to pull within one run, Trovato came up with her biggest hit of the season when she hit a grand slam to put Oswego State ahead by five. Brockport went down in order in the seventh for the Laker win. On the season, Trovato leads the team in virtually every offensive category.
