Oswego State's Wagenhauser wins 400 meters to close out SUNYAC Championships

OS Track and Field Matt Wagenhauser (So., Greenlawn, N.Y.) won the 400-meter dash title with a NCAA-qualifying time of 48.16 seconds at the State University of New York Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, May 4, in Cortland.

Wagenhauser's time, which bettered his own school record by nearly nine-tenths of a second, is currently the 14th-fastest time in Division III.

He is the first Laker to win the 400 meters since Rob Kurcoba took first in 2000.

The Laker men and women each finished eighth, as the women scored 37 points and the men scored 28 points. Cortland won both team titles after the men edged out Oneonta with 200 points and the women notched 244 points.

Katie Bott (Jr., Camillus, N.Y.) responded by shattering the school record in the 800 meters with an ECAC-qualifying time of 2:13.58 to place second. She bested the previous mark of 2:18.36 set by Susan McWilliams in 2004.

Emily Wild (Jr., Victor, N.Y.) earned points in the high jump, placing fifth after clearing a height of 5 feet, 1/4 inch (1.53m) based on the number of attempts.

Andrew Baldwin (Jr., Fulton, N.Y.) added points on the men's side with a seventh-place showing in the 400 meters with a time of 50.77 seconds. Christopher Bridgewater (So., Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Joshuwa Maiolo (So., Rome, N.Y.) finished seventh and eighth in the long jump with leaps of 44 feet, 2 3/4 inches (13.48m) and 43 feet, 1 1/2 inches (13.14m).

Christina Sakowski (Jr., Cicero, N.Y.) placed tenth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:24.33, while Sammy Bielli (Jr., Gloversville, N.Y.) was 14th with a result of 13:28.05. Sarah Popovitch (So., Clermont, N.Y.) finished 14th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:03.45.

The Oswego State women's 4x400 relay comprised of Brittany DalCais (So., Hewitt, N.Y.), Kristen Harrigan (So., Buffalo, N.Y.), Kathy Rodriguez (So., Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Bott garnered fifth place with a time of 4:03.60.
