A Quartet of Senior Lead Way at Houghton

OS Track and Field

The Oswego State men's track and field team continued to build upon their success of a week ago, bolstered by strong performances from four seniors that led to the capturing of four wins at the Houghton Invitational. Several other athletes reached event finals throughout the afternoon as well.

Senior Matt Wagenhauser notched the team's first win of the meet, taking first place in his season debut of the 400 with a time of 50.61. His training partner and classmate, Nick Reinsdorf, would follow up a few minutes later, taking first place in the 800 in 1:58.95, after coming through the 600-meter split in a blistering time of 1:27.

Fellow senior Nick Montesano picked up the team's third event win, leading wire-to-wire to take the 5,000 title with a time of 15:53.39, finishing 10 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

In the last men's event of the afternoon, rounding out the quartet was classmate Chris Bridgewater brought the crowd to its feet in the triple jump, taking command of the event from the first jump. Backed by the crowd, Bridgewater leaped out to a mark of 13.53 meters (44' 4.75") on his last attempt of the afternoon, to punctuate the performance.

Other notable performances included Bridgewater and sophomore Adam Crumb taking third and fourth, respectively, in the long jump. Junior Ben Griffin and senior Damian Archie reached the same outcome, grabbing third and fourth in the mile. Freshman Jim David also had a strong showing on the afternoon, taking fifth place in the hurdles with a career-best performance of 9.55 seconds.

The men will return to the track and field with an 11 a.m. start on Saturday at the Cornell Invitational.
