Courtney Ameele of the women’s basketball team has been named to the All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Second Team, as voted on by league coaches.
Ameele finished her senior season with an impressive 369 total points, averaging a team-high 14.8 points per game, the best offensive season she had during her four years as a Laker. Not only did Ameele lead the Lakers in points and points per game, but her numbers earned her the top spot in the conference as well.
The senior’s strong offensive effort not only helped her earn a spot in Oswego’s 1,000 point club, but also secured her a ninth-place spot on the all-time points leaderboard with 1,064 career points. Ameele is one of only ten players in school history to reach this milestone.
The Palmyra, N.Y. native led the team in several other offensive categories, including three-point percentage (28.8%) and assists per game (2.5).
During a 67-55 win over conference rival Plattsburgh on Feb. 2, Ameele recorded a career high 33 points, putting her in a four-way tie at 10th all-time for most points in a single game.
While she has earned multiple Oswego State Athlete of the Week awards and a spot on the SUNYAC All-Academic Team, Ameele’s All-Conference honor is the first of her career.
