Oswego Pounces on Opportunities Versus Caz

The Oswego State women's basketball team defeated the Cazenovia Wildcats — 63-35 —on Tuesday afternoon. Oswego has now won four of its last five and improves to 5-8 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 1-9.

Oswego began this contest on a 10-4 run, including a couple of long balls from Courtney Ameele, before extending the lead to 15 (22-7) at the end of the first quarter. Ameele finished with 15 points on 6-for-11 (54.5%) shooting.

The Laker lead fluctuated throughout the game, but Oswego extended its lead to as much as 31 several times in the second half. Thirty-five points is the fewest allowed by the program since it surrendered just 34 in a 47-34 win over Cortland on Feb. 8, 2013.

Beginning with just over three minutes remaining in the second, Quincey Zimmerman started a 13-0 Laker run with a couple of free throws. The run was capped off in the third by a Rachael Windhausen layup.

Zimmerman scored just five points, but nabbed nine boards including one on the offensive glass. Zana Dillard led the team in the rebounding category with 15 after recording the start.

Heather Hebert recorded a team-high 16 points on 7-for-9 (77.8) shooting from the field. She also notched three boards and three assists as well as a steal. Erin Gantley recorded the first points of career at Oswego and finished with three points, two rebounds, an assist and one steal.

The 28-point margin of victory was also Oswego's largest since it defeated Bay Path College by 37 (88-51) during the 2014-15 season.

Women's basketball returns to action on the road at 7:30 p.m. on Friday when they face Plattsburgh in the conference matchup.
