The Oswego State women's tennis team earned its first win of the 2013-14 season with an 8-1 victory over Wells College Tuesday evening, Sept. 17, at Romney Tennis Courts. It is the seventh straight time the Lakers have defeated the Express.
Oswego took every point in the match with the exception of first doubles. With the win, the Lakers move to 1-2 on the year while Wells falls to 0-2.
Jessie Flaim took the easiest win on the singles side, shutting out her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles. Olivia Knierman also took down her foe in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
At first singles, Nicole Leader battled to a 7-5, 6-3 win while Leslie Usherwood also won in the final singles spot, 6-4, 6-4.
Lauren Stall and Haley Miller each needed a third set to get their wins. Stall came back after dropping the first set to snag the victory 1-6, 6-3 and 6-4. Miller fell in the second set but rebounded without an issue, 6-3, 1-6 and 6-2.
Rounding out the scoring for the Lakers were Flaim and Stall paired at second doubles and Maddy Klatt teaming with Becca Zoeller at third doubles. Flaim made it the trifecta, not only shutting out her singles opponents but blanking the Express with Stall as well, 8-0.
The team of Klatt and Zoeller cruised to an 8-3 victory.
Oswego will return to action at 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20, when Oneonta comes to campus for a SUNYAC matchup.
