Softball Splits Two One-Run Games with Buffalo State

OS Softball The Oswego State softball team split two one-run games with Buffalo State on the road Saturday afternoon. With the split, Oswego is now 6-15 overall and 3-11 in the conference while the Bengals go to 13-10.

GAME ONE – Buffalo State 2, Oswego 1:

Ashley Lyman singled through the left side in the top of the third inning to drive in freshman Melissa Mulvaney, giving the Lakers a 1-0 lead.

Buffalo State was able to even the score at 1-1 with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth. The score would remain the same until the bottom of the final frame, as the Bengals earned a walk-off double to move past Oswego.

Five Lakers had hits on the day, with Lyman and Mulvaney each having as did Katie Dredin, Alexis Nasca and Deanna Apps. Lyman worked two walks on the day as Mulvaney achieved one base on balls.

Alexandria Connelly took a tough loss, going the full game, scattering nine hits while allowing two runs, only one of which was earned.

GAME TWO – Oswego 7, Buffalo State 6:

Oswego overcame a three-run first inning by the Bengals, scoring four in the sixth to take the victory. Katie Heselden, who earned the win on the rubber, scored the Lakers first run in the sixth, coming in from third on a wild pitch. Katie Bredin then singled through the right side to score Sammie Schroeter. Jessie closed out the four-run spurt with a single to right center field to drive in Bredin and Katie Dobkowski.

The Lakers tied the game in the fourth at 3-3 as Heselden again capitalized on a Bengal mistake, scoring on an error by the left field after Schroeter singled through the left side. Jacquie Porreca then drove in Schroeter from third on a ground out to the shortstop.

Justine Abramowski pushed Oswego's first run across the plate much like Porreca, ground out to the shortstop to score Schroeter.

Alexis Nasca started the game and went 2.2 innings of five hit ball, giving up four runs, only one of which was earned. Heselden threw the final 4.1 frames, scattering eights to allow just two runs.

Oswego will return to action at 1 p.m. on Sunday when it hosts Potsdam in conference play.
