The Oswego State volleyball team finished 2-2 in its tournament this weekend after splitting two matches Saturday in Max Ziel Gymnasium. With the split, the Lakers are now 6-6 on the season.
Senior Sabrina Sutton was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Its first match of the day was with St. Lawrence University. Oswego got out to an early lead, taking the first game 25-20. The second set pushed the Lakers a little more, eventually taking the game 27-25.
The Saints started to fight back in the third set, winning the game 25-17. Oswego closed the gap in the fourth but still fell 25-21, knotting the match at 2-2.
St. Lawrence and the Lakers battled a tough deciding game, venturing back and forth. The Saints opened up a 6-2 lead before Oswego stormed out on a 9-4 run, taking an 11-10 advantage, its first of the final game, and forcing a St. Lawrence timeout. The Lakers had two chances at match point, leading the Saints 14-12. St. Lawrence took the next three points, however, taking the lead back from Oswego.
Oswego saved the Saints first attempt at match point to knot the game at 15-15 before St. Lawrence scored two straight to take the match.
Rachel Ruggaber dug 21 St. Lawrence attempts while Stephanie Bailey led the team with 13 kills. Lauren Edwards had the game-high 32 assists.
In its final match of the tournament, the Lakers swept Wells College 25-18, 25-16 and 25-20. Megan Russell killed 11 attempts for a game-high while a bunch of teammates helped in the effort. Kim Cassa, Kelsey Dillon and Emily Walserall had four kills while Sutton and Sarah Meredith added three each.
Meredith led the team with 15 digs in the contest while Edwards had the team-high 17 assists.
Oswego will return to action at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, when it travels to take on the Pioneers of Utica College.
