Hayden Ward (Montauk, N.Y.), a senior on the men's basketball team, and Jocelyn St. Clair (Cambridge, Ontario), a junior on the women's ice
hockey team, have been named the Oswego State Athletes of the Week for the week ending Feb. 17.
Ward averaged 23.7 points and 14.0 boards to help Oswego State finish the week 2-1 to clinch a home State University of New York Athletic Conference playoff game. In Tuesday's 79-75 win over Oneonta that clinched a post-season berth, Ward registered career highs in points and rebounds with a 33-point, 18-board performance. He then scored 21 points at Potsdam and 17 at Plattsburgh over the weekend. The senior forward also shot 52.4 percent from the floor during the week.
St. Clair came up big for Oswego State at both ends of the rink, switching between forward and defense, as the Lakers upended Cortland by the scores of 3-2 and 3-1. The Lakers earned their first No. 3 seed in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference West Tournament in program history. In Friday's win, St. Clair scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period and assisted the game-tying goal in the second period for a come-from-behind victory. Her marker at 7:50 in the third period gave the Lakers a two-goal lead en route to Saturday's 3-1 victory. Entering the weekend series, she had two goals and two assists on the season.
