Discover the Dream Behind North Hannibal’s Dixon Farm

Amanda Vollmer and Jon Dixon, both veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom, began their business with a dream.

They each wanted to be able to provide themselves, their family, and their community with fresh produce and related products after successful careers as a Second Class Petty Officer in the Navy (Amanda) and as a Sergeant in the Army (Jon). So, in January 2024, the couple purchased land at 1037 County Route 7 in Hannibal and got to work turning “one day” into “day one.”

Like any dream that becomes reality, some plans worked perfectly, some didn’t, and there were some unexpected additions.

Meatball was one such surprise. The couple originally had no intention of working with sheep, but a rescue Katahdin hair sheep stole their heart… and then she needed friends. As a result, today they maintain a small flock of sheep with ewes they have bought and bred.

Amanda and Jon had intended to breed mini pigs and so added three to their farm. But the breeding plans did not work out, and so now the pigs are living out long, full lives as pets.

Egg-laying chickens were also a planned part of the farm, and today provide friends, family, and the wider community with farm-fresh eggs. The couple intends to add meat chickens to their offerings this year.

On top of animals, Dixon Farm grows a variety of produce. The farm focuses exclusively on organic varieties and does not use chemicals.

Other products provided by the duo include custom woodworking items. Jon’s creations range from functional items like custom planter boxes, bread knives, and BBQ caddies to decorative things like wooden windmills, cork and slate drink coasters, and holiday décor. They are able to handle custom orders as well to add personalization to their offerings. Folks can also find dice towers, dice trays, and dice boxes from the business at Amethyst Reiki in Fulton.

Both Jon and Amanda also enjoy spending time in the kitchen, and so offer fresh baked goods that are made to order. Sourdough and non-sourdough items on their menu include breads, bagels, English muffins, and more. “I was a cook in the Navy,” Amanda told iHeart Oswego, “[I] was thrown into the bake shop and fell in love with baking.”

Readers may have spotted Dixon Farm out in the community at the Hannibal Farmers Market last year. The market, which was organized for the first time last year, was held every other Tuesday from May to September. This year, they plan on returning to that market, as well as adding on other local markets and events to their schedule. Other plans include the addition of a road-side stand stocked with their produce, fresh baked goods, eggs and other farm fresh goodies.

“We also are currently searching for grazing opportunities on local solar farms for our flock,” Amanda noted. “Depending on this year's lambing season in the spring, we may even have a couple lambs available for sale for adding onto a flock or processing.” That information will be available on their website later this spring.

For folks who may want to browse from home, their website also includes an online store where visitors can order baked goods (pick-up or local delivery only) and custom woodworked items (shipping available); produce is seasonally available as well. Readers can join their mailing list to stay in the know about their events schedule and other happenings.

Congratulations on making your dreams come true, and we look forward to seeing these lovely folks out in the community in 2026 and beyond!
