Born on September 8, 1958, in Boston, Massachusetts, Lisa was the eldest of seven children. She was raised in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, where she developed the warmth, creativity, and adventurous spirit that would define her life. During high school, she met the love of her life, Warren Shaw. The two were married on May 29, 1976, in Rockport, Massachusetts, beginning a marriage filled with love, laughter, and countless adventures. Together they raised three children and built a home where everyone felt welcome.
Lisa lived a life centered on family, friendship, and community. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an extraordinary grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren. Whether she was crafting, swimming, or simply making memories together, her greatest joy came from the people she loved.
She was known by many as the ultimate hostess, opening her home and heart to family and friends with warmth, laughter, and hospitality. Her creativity shined through everything she touched, from sewing unforgettable Halloween costumes to creating beautiful handmade crafts. She had a lifelong love of tea, including running the popular Oswego Tea Company and their amazin’ raisin bread. She also found joy in establishing and operating other local businesses such as Ontario Outfitters, Lake Ontario Antiques, and Golden Gate Bridal. In addition she bred, raised and showed championship dogs through her kennel, Misty Hills Havanese. Her love of horses resulted in the formation of Legacy Ridge Stables in Mexico, NY.
Lisa was a long time Rotarian, having served as President of the Oswego Sunrise Rotary Club. In that capacity she was instrumental in establishing the Eastside Rotary Park which includes a pavilion, a young child’s playground and numerous outdoor musical instruments.
Lisa appreciated the arts, especially live musicals, and loved traveling—whether it was a cross-country family road trip or an adventure to Italy with Warren. She treasured days spent at the beach, quiet evenings watching movies with her grandchildren or a guilty pleasure of General Hospital and Days of Our Lives. Her kindness, generosity, and infectious enthusiasm for life's simple pleasures left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Lisa is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Warren Shaw; her children, Jonathan (Tara) Shaw of San Diego, California, Sarah Shaw of Oswego, New York, and Justin (Katherine) Shaw of Oswego, New York; and her grandchildren, Scott (Stacy) Kimmel, Adeline G. Shaw, Jackson J. Evans, Magnolia M. Shaw, and Scarlett J. Shaw.
She is also survived by her siblings, Wendy Leigh (Albert) Bozza, Jenny (James) Davenport, Alan Gossett, Kirsten (Robert) Munroe, Patricia (Jason) St. Martin, and Francis Louis (Sarah Carroll) Phelan III.
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Francis Louis Phelan Jr. and Alice Louise Gossett (Park).
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday August 1, 2026, starting at 1pm and going throughout the day, at the family home on 32 Lincoln Avenue, Mexico, NY in an open-house style gathering. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Lisa is welcome to stop by for five minutes or five hours to share and reminisce. In true Lisa fashion, guests are encouraged to bring their bathing suits and wear their most colorful outfits as they gather to celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and joy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice, with preference given to organizations supporting horses or other animals.
