The Oswego State field hockey team defeated Elmira College 2-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 1, on the Laker South Field. With the win, the Lakers move to 3-4 on the season while the Soaring Eagles fall to 1-6.
Ashley Fiorille's first goal of the season just over two minutes into the second half proved to be the game-winner. The senior is usually on the opposite end of a goal as she is currently ranked 19th in the country in assists per game. Ironically, her goal came in unassisted fashion as she corralled a saved shot off the stick of teammate Lisa O'Callaghan.
O'Callaghan set up the Lakers first goal as well, as another shot was saved that Ashley Collins settled before scoring past the Soaring Eagles keeper.
Oswego outplayed Elmira for most of the contest, outshooting the Soaring Eagles 20-8. The Lakers also took five more penalty corners than their opponent (9-5).
In goal, Grace Lombardi moved to 3-2 on the year with three saves.
Oswego will be right back to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, as it hosts Keystone College in a nonconference matchup.
