Oswego shoots lights out to blow out Ithaca

OS Basketball The Oswego State Lakers thumped the Ithaca College Bombers 99-73 in a nonconference matchup Tuesday night, Nov. 19, in Max Ziel Gymnasium.

Oswego improves to 2-1 on the year with the win while Ithaca drops to 1-2.
The 99 points scored by the Lakers was their most since over a year ago when Oswego defeated D'Youville 122-72 Nov. 16, 2012. Oswego held the lead for 39:25 of the game, trailing only after Ithaca scored the game's first basket. The teams' largest lead of the game was 33 points at 63-30.
In the first half, the Lakers had no trouble finding the bottom of the net, shooting 66.7 percent (24-for-36) from the field to grab a 64-34 lead at the break. Oswego shot that well with many of its attempts coming from deep, sinking 10 3-pointers while attempting just 18 (55.6 percent).
Leading the barrage in the opening stanza was Kyle Covley and Alex Rawa, each finishing the period with 14 points. Rawa drained five field goals on six attempts, including 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. Covley wasn't far off that efficiency, missing just two of his attempts (5-for-7).
Helping the Lakers head to the locker room with a 30-point advantage over the Bombers after 20 minutes were Brian Sortino (12) and Daniel Ross (11) who both scored double-digits.
The theme continued in the second half as Oswego played with a sizeable lead for the remainder of the contest.
Covley led all scorers with 21 points while Sortino finished with 17. Ross and Rawa both tallied 15 points. Rashawn Powell paced the Lakers with eight rebounds while Ross missed a double-double by one assist, distributing on nine Laker field goals. Ross also had the game's most steals, taking away four Bomber possessions.
As a team, Oswego had 23 assists, 15 steals and four blocks. The team made 15 3-pointers on the night, coming up just two shy of the program record. Oswego was also just six points shy of breaking the College record for points in a half with its 64 in the first.
The Lakers will put their shooting touch to the test again at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, when they travel to St. Lawrence to take on the Saints.
