Oswego Snaps Skid with Win at Brockport

OS Basketball

The Oswego State women's basketball team snapped a four-game skid with a 56-53 win at Brockport on Tuesday night in Vlogianitis Gymnasium. Oswego's victory pushes its record to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play while the Golden Eagles drop to 2-9, 0-4.

Trailing by three at half, Oswego fought back-and-forth over the opening moments of the second stanza, eventually capturing the lead for good with 12:08 left in the game. The Lakers then grew its lead to as many seven over the final 10 minutes, holding on for the three-point triumph.

A key in the win was Oswego's play down low, outdoing Brockport 28-16 in points in the paint. The team was also active on defense, holding the Golden Eagles to just 29.4% (20-for-68) shooting while stealing away nine possessions.

Heather Hebert led the Lakers on offense, going 7-for-14 from the field for a team-best 18 points in 40 minutes of action. Alisha Jacobs was a close second in the point column, scoring 13 points on the night. Freshman center Rachael Windhausen was also crucial in the effort, chipping in nine points to go along with a career-high 14 boards. Six of those came on the offensive glass to extend Oswego's possessions.

Point guard Mary Mazzella crashed the boards as well, gathering eight rebounds paired with a 10 point evening. The sophomore also led the squad with three assists and tied for a team-best two steals with Windhausen, Jacobs and Tayler Sorell.

Oswego will continue its SUNYAC schedule with a 7:30 p.m. road game at Plattsburgh on Friday.
