The Oswego State women's cross country team began its 2018 slate with a top finish at the five-team Fredonia Pre-SUNYAC 4K Preview race on Saturday morning.
Oswego had six runners complete the race in the top 20 out of more than 60 competitors.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Mackenzie Ross led the way with a second-place showing overall. She posted a mile average of 6:32.6, crossing the finish line in 16:15.8. Ross was a tad over four seconds off the winning pace but had 17 seconds on the third-place runner.
- Joining Ross in the top 10 were the freshman duo of Emily Gustafson and Hannah Hertick. The former took fourth with a time of 16:42.9 while the latter was in seventh at 16:50.9
- Rounding out the six Lakers in the top-third of the race were Sarah Rappleye, Jamie Kasza and Meghan O'Dwyer.
- Rappleye claimed 13th with Kasza right behind in 14th, both with sub-seven-minute miles.
- In her first race for Oswego after transferring from Oneonta, O'Dwyer ran a 7:01.4 pace to finish in 18th.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers will host their annual invitational at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Hidden Fields course on campus.
