OSWEGO COUNTY – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced this week that the Oswego County Airport will receive $119,810 in federal funds through the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program.
In the first game of the New York Regional, the Oswego State baseball team fell 7-5 to Amherst College in a game that went 11 innings Wednesday morning at Falcon Park. The Lakers made a two-run comeback in the ninth frame, but fell short in the second of the extra innings.
The Oswego State baseball team concluded its season on Thursday morning after it fell 7-2 to Oberlin College in its second game of the NCAA Championship New York Regional at Falcon Park. Oswego finishes the year with a record of 27-13, tying the program record for most wins in a single season.
After being selected to the D3baseball.com All-Region Team, Jordan Giller, Dan Saccocio, Brendyn Karinchak and Eric Hamilton were all named to the All-New York Region Teams as recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings. Giller and Saccocio both took home first team honors, while Karinchak earned second team accolades and Hamilton third team.
The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Rawlings has named Oswego State's Eric Hamilton to its national 2015 Gold Glove Team. Hamilton's recognition is at third base, where the sophomore was recognized as the best at that position during this season. He is one of just nine to garner a gold glove, and the only representative from New York State.
Oswego State baseball standout Dan Saccocio has been recognized by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as a Capital One First Team Academic All-American. This comes on the heels of Saccocio earning Academic All-District 3 honors from CoSIDA and Capital One in May.
The awards keeping flowing for members of the Oswego State baseball team, as Jordan Giller, Dan Saccocio and Brendyn Karinchak were recognized as Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate All-Stars. Oswego had the second-most players to make the 16-man roster, behind RPI's four selections and capturing one more spot than national champion Cortland.
The Oswego State women's ice hockey team has hired Greg Haney as its full-time assistant coach as of July 2015. Haney joins the Lakers after spending a year at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point when the Pointers made a run to the national championship game before falling to Trinity College.
The Oswego State men's and women's swimming and diving teams were recently recognized as NCAA Division III Scholar All-America teams by the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for the 2015 spring semester. In order to be named on the All-America list, squads must earn a combined team grade-point average of 3.00 or higher.
The Oswego State volleyball team went the distance twice on Friday, earning wins in both contests on the first day of the University of Scranton Invitational to stay perfect on the year. Oswego opened with a 3-2 win over the host Royals before taking down Pitt-Bradford by the same score in the nightcap.
